The attribution of was successfully completed 22 scholarships at Limamou Laye High School in Dakar (Senegal), for the school year 2025-2026.
This support represents not only a essential help, but also an important one source of motivation to continue studies in more dignified and peaceful conditions.
Il Liceo Limamou Laye, located on the outskirts of Dakar, it is a historically recognized institute in the Senegalese educational panorama. Welcome today approximately 13.000 students, many of whom find themselves in conditions of economic precariousness, family and social. EURIDIT has been operating within this large institute through modest but significant actions for almost twenty years, in particular with the awarding of scholarships to students facing socioeconomic difficulties, family or health, both physical and psychological.
The school year 2025-2026 marked an important turning point: has in fact registered the highest number of scholarships awarded by EURIDIT to Limamou Laye High School since the beginning of the collaboration. In total they have been assigned 22 bags, thanks to the generosity and commitment of donors. Of these scholarships, 16 they were named in memory of Captain Francesco de Negri, killed by Nazi-fascists in the massacre of Kefalonia; 4 they were named in memory of Angelo Bendotti, historian of the Italian Resistance; e 2 are included in the “Bruxelles solidaire” support.
The scholarship project does not only constitute financial support. It also involves high school staff and social workers, who accompany students in their academic career and in their personal and social development. The social worker assigned to the high school and the social worker specifically dedicated to the scholarship project guarantee regular monitoring of the scholarship holders through periodic meetings, visits to families, the proposal of remedial school courses and orientation towards health facilities or specialized services available in the area.
The scholarships allow students to meet essential needs such as transport costs to get to school, school supplies, meals during class days and some medical expenses. These measures therefore represent an important tool in the fight against school dropout.
While many organizations mainly support education at the primary level, very few initiatives concern secondary education students. In Senegal, the school dropout rate remains particularly high in middle schools and high schools, with just about the 35% of students who manage to complete the entire secondary education cycle.
